Our business was established in 1999 in Cape Town and focusses on the institutional market. We pride ourselves on being an experienced, independent, dynamic, progressive and client focused business with a vision to be recognised as the leading full-service BEE stockbroker in South Africa. PSec is also an agency only stockbroker, which means we only trade for our clients and have no conflicts of interest.
Level One Contributor B-BBEE Status
Our B-BBEE Status is a Level One Contributor. The benefit of our status for our clients is that brokerage spent at PSec can be added to their procurement spend in terms of the Procurement & ESD elements, contributing towards their B-BBEE status.

The 'PSec Way'
The 'PSec Way' refers to the values and approach we implemented in lieu of developing our team and ultimately supporting the local financial industry. This involves skills development, upliftment and the training of our staff through mentorship and re-investment.
Furthermore, our Research and Trading offering is built around the 'PSec Pillars', in particular:
- Fundamental Equity Research (Stock specific value add)
- Alpha Labs (Investment Strategy, Risk Management, Quantitative Analysis, Economics Analysis, Portfolio Analytics)
- Equity Trading (Local and Internationally listed shares)
- Derivative Trading & Analysis (Equity and Currency)
- Fixed Income Trading & Analysis (Spot and Derivative)
- Operations (Compliance, Administration and Settlements)
- GEARS (PSec General Excel And Research Software)
This allows PSec to provide a comprehensive research and trading service across the asset classes which is underpinned by GEARS (Excel based Financial Toolkit / Add-in).
GEARS is not only used internally but is also a 'go-to' platform for our supporting clients. Alternatively, GEARS is available for stand-alone or enterprise-level licencing. Visit www.psecgears.co.za and take a look.
Additionally, PSec, together with Bree Street Capital Proprietary Limited, raises substantial capital at competitive rates for listed corporates on a private placement basis from larger asset managers and institutions. The investment is in the form of a straightforward note and does not involve a formal listing programme. The notes are dematerialised and settled through the STRATE payment system. The term is from call to long dated. PSec also acts as calculation agent on these notes and manages the administration thereof.
Wayne Smith, who has many years of experience as a legal advisor in banking and in structured finance, is Head of our Corporate Notes unit and can be contacted on 021 700 5315 or wayne@prescient.co.za.
