Senior Systems Engineer (Prescient Centralised Services)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

• Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues related to hardware, software, operating systems, and networking.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues promptly.
• Provide support for enterprise-level applications and systems such as VMware, Linux servers, Windows Server environments, and Cloud platforms.

System Administration and Infrastructure Management

• Design, install, maintain, and upgrade IT infrastructure including virtual servers (VMware), networks, storage, and enterprise backup systems.
• Manage server configurations, Maintenance and system integration tasks.
• Manage both on-premises Exchange servers and Office 365 tenants.
• Administer Active Directory services, including Group Policy management.
• Manage daily backups and replication of production servers to disaster recovery sites, collaborating with monitoring teams to resolve any backup/replication issues
• Configure and maintain firewalls, network switches, and Wi-Fi access points.
• Ensure compliance with cybersecurity controls and policies while maintaining a strong security posture.

Project Management

• Lead IT projects including scope definition, timeline creation, and execution to ensure successful completion on time and within budget.
• Implement new technologies to address performance goals and application / network challenges.

Documentation and Training

• Develop technical documentation for procedures, policies, and system configurations.
• Train end-users and junior engineers on new systems or tools to enhance productivity.

Collaboration and Leadership

• Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements for system improvements or new implementations.
• Mentor junior engineers to build technical expertise within the team.

Skills

• Proficiency in Linux administration (Ubuntu preferred).
• Proficiency in network troubleshooting (TCP/IP protocols) and virtualization technologies.
• Ability to automate tasks using scripting languages like Perl or PowerShell.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with technical teams and end-users.

Competencies

• Leadership skills to guide project teams and mentor junior staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is advantages.
• Advanced certifications such as Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), or Linux are preferred.
• Microsoft Azure Fundamentals – Preferred but not mandatory
• AWS Essentials certification - Preferred but not mandatory
• Prior experience in DevOps engineering will be viewed as an advantage.
